Today we added Rep. Dean Heller (R-NV) @deanheller to the Tweet Congress directory. Big deal right, how did that change Tweet Congress? To be honest this is not the first time we had added @deanheller to our directory but the first time we had added the “REAL” @deanheller. It seems we were misled, bamboozled, conned, duped, flimflammed, hornswoggled, outfoxed, snowed and unwittingly sucked into “The Great Dean Heller Experiment”. The “Anon Guy” author of the Dullard Mush blog began using @deanheller on Feb. 13th of this year, posting snippets from Rep. Heller’s own press releases. On June 8th the ruse came to an end when Twitter confiscated the account and turned it over to the Real Dean Heller.
We are actually glad this happened. Sounds kind of strange being happy that we were fooled, but it’s made us tighten up our process. Before we add new people to the Tweet Congress directory we now call and confirm the identity with the Press Secrectary of the Congressman or Senator. Hopefully we won’t get hoodwinked again. We don’t have any ill will toward Anon Guy and the Dullard Mush blog. We actually think his experiment did a lot of good. First off he wasn’t malicious with his use of the account and it made us look at our approval process and improve it. I think Anon Guy’s experiment was instrumental in getting the Real Dean Heller on Twitter and communicating with his constituents. Now you know how Dean Heller changed Tweet Congress.
